Another cartridge that now-a-days is compatible with the new version of Nintendo 3DS is the R4i RTS Platinum. In this tutorial we will explain you how to do to update it, in order to make it run your self home made applications, music and many other things at the portable console of Nintendo.

Note: Following the steps we will make this cartridge run over the Nintendo DSi/ DSi XL version1.43

Note: This tutorial will be only applied if the picture which is shown at our R4i RTS Platinum is different from the “Finding Nemo” If we try with other model of cartridge different from R4i RTS Platinum, this could become useless or bricked.

We will need the following things:

1. Once we have downloaded the files. We unzip the Operative System R4i RTS PT 3.2 and we shall have the following files and folders.
  • Folder _system_
  • Folder moonshl2
  • File _DS_MENU
  • File _ds_menu
  • File moonshl2.nds

So important, don’t erase this system, because we will use it in a few steps ahead.

2. Now it’s time to unzip the other file we have (3DS Update Firmware 2.0.1.3) and will rest the following files.
  • File _DS_MENU
  • File _ds_menu
  • File EON_Write

These three files must be copied to the microSD. The computer will warn us if we want to overwrite all the files. We press yes and we wait till it finishes with the copy.

3. Once we have put all inside the microSD, we put it in the cartridge, and the cartridge inside a DS Lite, DSi or DSi XL.

When we have turned it on and loaded the cartridge will appear two black screens, the bottom one will show “Press [A] to continue [EON]…

We press A and then we let it run the process (we suggest to have the battery at the 100% or the battery charger plugged) It will take around 5 minutes.

When we can read at the screen “Verify… OK” we can turn the console off
4. We connect once again the microSD to the PC and we erase the following files from the card.

  • File _DS_MENU
  • File _ds_menu
  • File EON_Write

5. Now we take the Operative System R4i RTS PT 3.2 the following files:
  • File _DS_MENU
  • File _ds_menu
We copy them to the microSD, and ready, we will have our R4i RTS Platinum ready to work over Nintendo 3DS.
